I am running a dual 1.6ghz power G5 w/ Mac OS Version 10.3.9

I don't know much about macs considering i only work on one at work : P However, i need some kind of program, similar to Adobe Streamline, as i have a really complicated piece of lineart i need to convert to vector, and tracing the image would take a better part of 20+ hours. I could redraw it no problem, however both illustrator brushes and Flash Brushes are rather finicky when it comes to detailed lines, although mainting the detail isn't as important, it seems that drawing lines close to each other in either of these programs causes nothing but headaches. I don't care if the image gets messed up a little, it can be fixed. Does anyone hav eany suggestions? We have an insaino file wall at work that doesn't permit any kind of file sharring programs......... although i hear that CS2 has a nice vector conversion tool. I have a nice PC at home that can run just about anything............... I just dont' have much knoweldge in the world of vector art.

I need ideas.

On a side note, this is just odd.

Also synonimous with crack cocain, and methamphetamines. In moderation, all of these can be an enjoyable social experience, however abuse of such activities could lead to long term effects.

Let's take online video games for example, to which we tragically lost yet another Korean. In my glory online days, i am embarrassed to say i used to put in 60 to 80+ hours a week just playing. This was achieved by living at home, and relatively few social activities, by few, i mean none, thus leading to 16 to 20 hour days of game play. I suppose 60 to 80 hours a week is a modest estimate, it's probably more like 100 to 120. Why is it so addictive? Some would say instant gratification. In my case, most likely used as an escape, and a way to achieve a perception of myself i wasn't quite ready to take on in the real world. You really don't have to think about much, and depending on the time and energy you invest, you can become a very well respected player. When your entire world has become the game, that kind of respect can mean so much more than it actually is, a buncha nerds who don't have the same time or energy to waste as you do, or mabye they aren't as effeciant at it.

Spending this much time that consumed by anything, is going to take it's toll on you, usually in the form of exhaustian. This exhaustian can cause a host of problems, from strained eyes to brain aniurisms, but i don't think people really take that sort of thing seriously. I myself actually have permanent red marks on my eyes, from playing at home on a computer or tv all day, and going to work and sitting in front of another computer screen all day. They aren't really noticable, but it's a reminder that sometimes there is such a thing as too much. Some other things that have caused my body to go array i have also narrowed down to a result of extreme exhaustian.

For me the social aspect of these games is so much more fun, and achievment unlike offline games, is instantly recognized. It is rewarding to outsmart people with a clever stat build, finding a better way to level, or wreaking havoc with your hard earned character on pvp. When all is said and done, usualy after a couple years time, this world is left behind, and you find yourself back exactly where you were when you started, living at home, with no job, and no life.

This is the big reason i put these games down, because of the tremendous drain they cause, and they are designed specifically to be this addicting. My production level drops to almost nothing when i play, and i start making time where i don't have it, separating myself from my friends, my art, and whatever insigificant thing that is going on in my life. I've made false promise to myself after false promise, not being able to stay away for no more than a few months, and friends of mine who continue to play new games, or even the same old ones, make it hard to get out of that sort of thing. Pretty soon, all of your friends become virtual, as well as your life, and you've trapped yourself with nowhere to go.

In pretty much the last year i've felt less and less like playing, after beating myself up so hard for playing FFXI, or RO, or PSO.......... I knew before i ever played an online game it would be the end of me......... I have gained soo much in this time, people in the real world are starting to respect me again, which is odd to me given my current situation, but it's been awesome. I have a pretty cool job, where at the very least, i get to use some form of creativity. I have someone i'm close too, and a growing pool of friends. I've been trying hard to get myself in the habit of regularly producing art, and i have set aside time every day despite work, and many other commitments, to sit down and draw. Last week i kinda broke my grove with a little feeling of crappyness, and my lack of drawing lingered through out the week, though i may have done some work, it wasn't anywhere near my usual goal. I figured i needed a little break of some sort, something to do, i was bored of all my games, and my roommates were both playing Ragnarok Online. I thought to myself, nah.......... i can't do that, i'd get consumed, RO has an awefull leveling curve. It turns out this server has 6x exp rate, and it's pretty lightly populated, so there won't be anyone to draw me in.

WRONG.......... i was pretty much glued to my chair since Friday night........... I played on thursday but i deleted the game because i didn't trust myself. After talking with Evon i thought i could play responsibly, but i can't. You know your in trouble when your already attached to your character......... even though i was playing with Evon pretty much the whole time, and no one else. I figured playing with people i only know IRL would limit it.......... the only thing is i don't seem to be very good at telling myself no to that sort of thing. Even though i slept for some reason today i feel like i haven't slept in 3 days. I like to play, especially as a reward, but these games are just to facking involving. Today when i get home im deleting everything, so i don't have to think about it anymore.

Video games for me are fun though, it's what i do, i don't really ready comics, or watch TV, i like movies, but not as much as a good RPG, which don't seem to exist in this day and age. I think if they were designed better, online games could be a little less addicting. For istance i love the customization you can get, and making a unique character that distingueshes you from the lot, and unique abilities, however, i hate the long long path you take to get there.

Someone needs to make a game, no more complicated or involving as Zelda, but with the richness and scale of these giant MMO's. Something you can just get on and play, and mabye beat a dungeon, and then go home for the day. You can arrange to beat an area with friends, and even save and quit, and pick it up later. Something you could do online so you'd always have someone to play with, and lots and lots of monsters, so you can get rid of the many frustrations that probably drive you to escapes like games in the first place. Action Adventure Co-Ops are a step in the right direction, too bad you have to each have a game boy advanced to play them (you know what i'm talkin about, and no the DS doesn't hook up to your GC) Unless it's an RPG i don't have much fun playing games by myself, whcih is another problem.

I suppose there are other ways, like making a group that plays only during schedualed times, or just being really good at self control.

What i would love, is to see the energy that i put into playing put into my art. I know art takes 1000x more concentration though, and requires asbstract thinking, unlike MMO's which can be played by robots. I suppose when it comes down to it, there really aren't any comprises when it comes to MMO's. They are a waste of time, a permanent drain, in the end you will lay your character to rest, and walk away with nothing gained.

It does seem like MMO's are the best bargain though, rather than buying a new game every couple of months, and spending 50 bucks or more at a time, you could just pay 10 to 15 bucks a month, or nothing, depending on what you play, and have so much to do you don't even know where to begin.

I suppose this is just no more than a giant scattered rant, and even though i only lost one weekend to it, i don't think i'd like to loose anymore.

In other news, we found the guy who took Evons' wallet and Cell phone, now the detective is going to gather some evidence so we can legally kick his ass.

So i was thinking more lately that my art isn't that popular, and i should cocentrate more on doing some finished polished colored pieces, to help grow interest...... then this was said to me by a good friend of mine:

"there is a caveat in being popular, in that you need to appeal to the lowest common denominator
and spend godawfully long hours polishing a turd"

The thing about what i've been thinking about doing, is i don't really enjoy it. I want to tell stories, the way i want, good, mediocre, or even occassionally bad art aside, this is my goal. It's tempting to cater to everyone, isn't it? But you cant, and this is a lesson i've learned the hard way, a lesson not to be forgotten.

This is a drawing i did at our friday night get togethers, it was pretty quick but kinda cool,
the character is sephra from Vion, but we also added her to this other demented storyline that we are coming up with, the little
meat ball thing on the left is the king of the universe, from Paper Maru, the only child of the king, Sephra, was forced to marry
him so the king could get even with her malicious galavanting, however he did a little too much galavanting of his own and was
was killed by the queen of the universe, who shortly after offed herself because of her extreme pain, leaving sephra, and the
meat ball guy to rule the universe. Ok that's retarded im sorry...

Inspired by the sephra sketch above, i started working on yet another illustration, but i intend to make this one highly detailed,
i figured i'd post what i have so far, because i want it to be perfect, so any feed back is appreciated.

In other news, Evon got her wallet stolen, along with her cell phone and credit cards, i am very upset at this run of luck that she's
had for a while now, it better end sometime soon......... Luckily we were able to cancel the cards and get reimmbersed for the amount
that was spent without her knoweledge. They spent some money on gas, and then some more at Albertsons, and finally tried to send
over a grand via Western Union to someone named Hanson Hall, we tried to look him up so we can kick his ass, but have had
no luck with that. We assume that the person lives in our apartment complex, as it was snatched from the car, which unfortunitally,
and ever more rarely unlocked. I didn't lock the door, but usually the auto lock goes off, i guess it didn't this time. I feel bad <_< I bought her some milk tea and offered to replace her phone (we didn't get insurance on them), but nothing can replace her black Baditz Maru wallet : / so sad. None of this hardly seems like enough, ah well no real harm done, thank god.

Well not a whole lot, but i am reviving and old tale, and i figured i'd put some of the sketches up, mostly just ideas so far....

This is all for a story called Dreamer, and this is the main character, Morgan, redone, and then redone some more. I think i want to go for a really heavy contrast, and avoid using tones if at all possible on my next comic. I think that's mary Poppins, popping in there somewhere.

Looks like the con season is over for me.

I think the end of the con season for me is more like other people and their new years resolutions. I have lots of new ideas brewing in my head, along with lots of new focus. It's time to cast off some old shackles and replace them with shiney new ones that i can more easily manage. One thing i am doing for sure is limiting my energies towards my own stories and ideas, and even then as few as possible. I suppose i could spill the beans as to what is happenening next, but that's no fun. I haven't been this excited about doing art for years, i feel like i can really do something now that alof of this other crap is finally sorting it'self out in my life.

I suppose i'll post some more updates as they come to fruition.

The future of my art.

It has just come to my attention that my domain name has expired without me even noticing. I'm wondering if i should even bother renewing it. I don't really want to undertake any huge online projects at the moment. I just want to work quietly on one thing, so why should i even bother? I was considering purchasing soylentart.com just for me and my personal projects. I really kinda feel lost in the online world these days, both in popularity and identity. I know my stuff isn't the greatest, but i know i can still do good things. I feel my art could be much better, but i don't seem to care for taking inspiration from others. I like trudging in my own little path, however miniscule it is. I know im not the most terribly social artist either, and since i rarely post art i know it's not going to direct very much attention my way.

No Landers crashed and burned, and comicsushi went with it, along with my relationship with a friend or two. I have a clean slate here. I have been working on something, but the amount of effort i've put into it so far is pretty miniscule. I have a feeling i should just completely whipe the slate clean and create a new persona, new site, ect... I am still going to work on the same comics, but i'm not entirely sure what to do with the rest of myself. I'm not even sure what the point of this post is. It's a bit angsty i suppose. I know I have some major issues starting to clear up in my life, and i do feel inspired, i just don't know what i'm waiting on. Work is a little annoying, because it drains me creatively. If i could approach comics with the same effeciency that i handle my current job, i would be doing far more than ok.

How does one train oneself to work so hard on your own? Where does that discipline come from? I feel i can finally devote myself fully to my dreams, but i want to make sure i don't repeat my old habits. It's time for me to prove I'm better than that. I have no excuses anymore. For once in my life everything is going my way. I know i've changed alot in the last year.............. but i need to focus less on myself now and more on my work.
